Played foxfire this morning. In my opinion they need to reverse the nines. The first 2 holes play directly into the rising sun making it nearly impossible to see shots and a really slow pace of play for every group starting out. There is no sand in the bunkers just good old dirt...not sure if they plan on reworking them or letting them fill in with grass but they are absolutely unplayable. The tee boxes need some attention also. There is nearly no “grass”. Not sure if it was weeds or another strain of “grass” but they are horrendous. In my opinion neither course is worth the money. I played players in late June and there was no sand in those bunkers either. Both courses just don’t see the maintenance they used to. It’s a shame,Players was always my favorite public course in the Columbus area and now I never plan on returning unless there is major maintenance done.
We played the Players Club. Tee boxes were poorly kept, tall grass where you are supposed to tee up. Sand Traps had dirt clods, weeds, tire tracks and were hard packed. Almost unplayable. Fixing ball marks on the green seems to be a foreign concept to the groups in front of us because we were fixing our own and one or two others every hole. Personnel were all very nice and most of the fairways were in great shape. I played here last year and it was in great shape, well maintained all the way around. I'm not sure what happened, maybe we caught them on a bad week? I won't hurry back.
Player's course is more challenging, especially the back nine with narrow fairways and lots of trees. The Foxfire course is my favorite because of the wide open fairways. There are plenty of trees on both courses and the sand traps are well kept. Water is not much of a factor on the Foxfire course except for the 9th hole. The Players course has more water and the fairway traps are finer white sand. I have played both courses in under 3 hrs on weekdays. Both offer great price for 18 holes of golf. The carts are as good as you will find on any golf course. Great place to have a golf outing. All the people who operate the courses are friendly and helpful. The food and drinks are reasonably priced. I think Foxfire is one of the best hidden golf courses in Ohio.
Thanks Darrell! We look forward to seeing you soon!
Had a Great Experience on the course today! Can't wait to return!
